Dyeing vegetable fibres workshop Saturday March 20th 2010

What another great workshop; this was – due to Jane’s great planning and tutoring on the day and of course the enthusiastic participants. We were joined by Sheila Greaves from Leek could join us again. We all had a thoroughly enjoyable day. Lorna had prepared some skeins to get us going, so after scouring we were able to get stuck in straight away. The morning was spent dyeing with different values of one colour and mixing dyes to get individual tones. After a 3 course shared lunch we learnt painting to give rainbow yarns and then began to use all we had learnt to experiment as we wished. Jane had also brought skeins of hemp & linen both natural and washed, a cotton & linen mix & paper string. Members also brought different vegetable fibres to try.  The day went far too quickly – perhaps we need to think about a weekend workshop! These are some pictures from the day:

This is Jane's collection that we aspired to!

Janet dyed a  mixture of fibres in the

same jade dye- from the left: paper; then silk hankies with skeins of cotton, ramie (I think!), hemp;raffia on the right and bamboo fibre at the bottom.

Our next Saturday workshop is on July 24th- Nuno feltmaking.
