Exhibition 2010
Last year we were at Quarry Bank Mill, Styal by kind invitation of the National Trust
The exhibition ran from 18th - 26th Sept
The title was 'From Fibre to Fabric' and as usual we aimed for a vibrant and interactive exhibition incorporating weaving, spinning and dyeing and inspirations from our many textile workshops. We counted up that we'd had 12 of these workshops covering a wide range of topics.
There was also the opportunity to have a go at spinning, weaving and knitting with ideas on how to get started at home - this was VERY propular with the very young as well as the very interested adults.
Some of us were there each day. It was a great success and all of us who sat with the exhibition had a great time meeting all our visitors.
Here you can see some general views of the exhibition.
This is the entrance to the exhibition.
This year we arranged the exhibition in general themes and then subdivided this into the workshops we had arranged dring the year.
This was our 'fibres' table showing a variety of different fibres, how we get from fibre to yarn and some examples of what we do with fibres in spinning and knitting.
As a Guild we do a lot of dying- this is is view of the 'dyeing' table, with Lorna sorting out some of her dyed skeins!
We seem to have done a lot of weaving this year! Our weaving display had to have an overspill table!
We've also concentrated on products this year, in terms of design, beads, machine knitting, bead making and nuno felt - the following give a flavour of these workshops/
Demonstrating and encouraging visitors to try their hand at weaving and spinning is always a large part of our exhibition. This was taken during one of our few quiet periods!
Visitors left lots of great comments for us. It has been difficult picking out my favourite - I think this sums it up for us:
'The hand's on opportunities were excellent. My grand-daughters will remember their visit because they participated and made something. Well done Alsager WSD.'
If you have never been to
Quarry Bank Mill, it's a great place for a day out - even if we are not here for you to see!
